Maloy Amador, Attempted Murder of a Federal Officer, New Jersey 2024

Newark, N.J. – In a dramatic shootout with federal law enforcement, Maloy Amador, 43, of Morris County, faces charges that include attempted murder of a federal officer and possession of five firearms.

Amador, accused by complaint of discharge of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, possession of firearms by a convicted felon, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge José R. Almonte in Newark federal court on August 14, 2025. He was promptly detained.

According to law enforcement documents and courtroom statements, Amador opened fire at officers executing a search warrant at his Parsippany residence on August 13. An intense exchange of gunfire followed before Amador surrendered. The bullet that struck an officer’s arm during the shootout became embedded in the officer’s bulletproof vest.

Upon searching Amador’s home, authorities found narcotics and multiple assault rifles. The charges against Amador carry severe penalties, with a maximum sentence for attempted murder of a federal officer reaching 20 years in prison, while possession of firearms by a convicted felon could result in up to 15 years behind bars.

Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba emphasized the severity of the crime, stating, “Violence against federal law enforcement officers will not be tolerated.” Habba credited multiple agencies for their efforts in today’s charges, including the FBI, DEA, ATF, and various state and local law enforcement bodies.

This investigation is part of Operation Take Back America, a Justice Department initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and violent crime. Amador now faces a lengthy legal battle for his alleged actions.
