Grimy Times has learned that Nestor Alberto Duran-esquivel, a 39-year-old citizen of El Salvador, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for illegal reentry in Louisiana.
The sentencing took place in federal court in Louisiana on June 9, 2023, before U.S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan.
Duran-esquivel was found guilty of being an alien who was previously removed and was knowingly and unlawfully found in the United States in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana on June 9, 2012, without the Attorney General or Secretary of Homeland Security having expressly consented to his re-application for admission into the United States.
The defendant’s sentence was subject to enhancement based on a previous aggravated felony conviction.
This case was investigated by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Robert Weir.
Duran-esquivel will be placed on three years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment, during which time he will be under federal supervision and risks an additional term of imprisonment should he violate any terms of supervised release.
