Donald Jeter, Fentanyl and Cocaine Trafficking, Pennsylvania 2021

New Castle resident Donald Jeter, 34, pleaded guilty in federal court to trafficking fentanyl and cocaine between May 2021 and October 2022.

According to the Department of Justice, Jeter was involved in a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl and cocaine, violating federal laws. The crimes took place in Pennsylvania, specifically targeting residents in New Castle and surrounding areas.

Federal law prohibits possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, and Jeter was also found guilty of possessing a firearm on August 10, 2022. This charge further complicates the case against Jeter, who now faces severe penalties for his crimes.

The investigation that led to Jeter’s prosecution was a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, United States Postal Inspection Service, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Lawrence County Drug Task Force, Mercer County Drug Task Force, New Castle Police Department, Sharon Police Department, and Pennsylvania State Police.

Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller is leading the prosecution of Jeter on behalf of the United States. The case has been ongoing since the defendant’s arrest, with both sides presenting evidence and arguments in court.

Jeter’s sentencing is scheduled for September 24, 2024. If convicted, he could face a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $1 million, or both. Under the federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence will be determined by the seriousness of the offenses and Jeter’s prior criminal history.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing opioid crisis and the devastating impact of fentanyl and cocaine trafficking on local communities. Grimy Times will continue to follow the case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
