New Orleans Man Charged With Assaulting Federal Officer
John Philip Morrill, 32, of New Orleans, Louisiana, has been charged with assault upon a federal officer, access device fraud, and bank fraud in a superseding bill of information filed by U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.
According to the superseding bill of information, Morrill knowingly assaulted Special Agent Brian Rossitto of the United States Secret Service on September 21, 2012, while Rossitto was engaged in the performance of his official duties.
Morrill is also charged with two counts of access device fraud and one count of bank fraud for devising a scheme to defraud the ASI Federal Credit Union.
If convicted of the assault upon a federal officer count, Morrill faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 8 years, a fine of $250,000, and a 3-year term of supervised release.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Julia K. Evans is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the United States Secret Service.
U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente reiterated that the superseding bill of information is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Julia K. Evans, with the United States Secret Service leading the investigation.
