New Orleans Man Guilty of Failure to Register as Sex Offender

MICHAEL LARRIEU, a 25-year-old resident of New Orleans, Louisiana, has pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender, announced U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.

According to documents filed in federal court, LARRIEU pled guilty to possession of child pornography in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana in 2007. He was sentenced to 40 months imprisonment followed by a lifetime supervised release term. As a result of LARRIEU’s conviction, he was required to register pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

LARRIEU admitted that between February 27, 2013 and March 25, 2013, he failed to comply with his sex offender registration requirements.

LARRIEU faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years, a fine of $250,000 and up to 5 years of supervised release. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 24, 2013.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.

The case was investigated by the United States Marshals and prosecution of this case is being handled by Project Safe Childhood Coordinator and Strike Force Chief, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M.
