British Man Sentenced to 17 Years for Child Exploitation and Pornography

Bangor, ME – In a shocking case of child exploitation, 27-year-old Nicholas Cheese, from Oxford, England, was sentenced to 17 years in prison and 5 years of supervised release for producing child pornography.

The case unfolded in 2012 when Cheese developed an online relationship with a 12-year-old girl from Maine, exchanging photographs and chatting with her via email. In June 2013, Cheese traveled from England to Bangor and sexually assaulted the girl at a local hotel, recording one of the assaults.

Court documents reveal that Cheese’s actions were a result of a prolonged online relationship with the minor. The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, the Bangor Police Department, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, and the Thames Valley Police in Oxford, England.

Nicholas Cheese, a British national, was charged with producing child pornography. His guilty plea was entered on October 18, 2013.

As part of his sentence, Cheese will serve 17 years in prison and undergo 5 years of supervised release after his prison term. The investigation and prosecution of this case highlight the severity of child exploitation and the importance of international cooperation in combating such crimes.
