Cheese Sentenced to 17 Years for Child Exploitation

Bangor, Maine – In a disturbing case of online predation, Nicholas Cheese, 27, of Oxford, England, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison and 5 years of supervised release for producing child pornography.

According to court documents, Cheese developed an online relationship with a 12-year-old girl from Maine in 2012, exchanging photographs and e-mails with her. In June 2013, he traveled from England to Bangor and sexually assaulted the girl at a local hotel, recording one of the assaults.

The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, in Bangor and London, England; the Bangor Police Department; the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office; and the Thames Valley Police in Oxford, England.

U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced the sentence, stating that Cheese’s actions were a serious breach of trust and a threat to the safety of our children.

“This is a devastating case that highlights the dangers of online predators,” Delahanty said. “We must do everything in our power to protect our children from those who seek to harm them.”
