Nicholas Ostheimer, Drug Trafficking, Sharon PA, 2024
SHARON, PA – Nicholas Ostheimer, 26, of Sharon, Pennsylvania, has confessed to running a significant drug operation, flooding the streets with cocaine, heroin, and the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl. Ostheimer pleaded guilty in federal court to charges that could land him behind bars for decades, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The feds say Ostheimer conspired with others to distribute at least 500 grams of cocaine, 40 grams of fentanyl, and 100 grams of heroin between June 2020 and June 2021. He didn’t just conspire; he was caught red-handed distributing cocaine on November 18, 2020. A later raid on June 17, 2021, turned up a stash of over 500 grams of cocaine and a quantity of crack cocaine.
U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon accepted Ostheimer’s guilty plea and scheduled his sentencing for July 30, 2024. The potential penalty is severe: a minimum of five years, but up to 40 years in prison, plus a fine of up to $5 million. The final sentence will depend on sentencing guidelines considering the seriousness of the crimes and any prior convictions Ostheimer may have.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Benjamin C. Dobkin and Craig W. Haller are leading the prosecution. This wasn’t a solo operation, however. A massive multi-agency task force brought Ostheimer down, including the FBI, DEA, Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office, ATF, Pennsylvania State Police, and multiple local police departments from Lawrence, Mercer, and New Castle counties.
The investigation was part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) program, a federal initiative aimed at dismantling large-scale drug trafficking organizations. OCDETF brings together a wide range of law enforcement agencies to target not just street-level dealers, but the kingpins pulling the strings and laundering the profits. This operation highlights the continued effort to choke off the supply of deadly drugs into Western Pennsylvania.
Ostheimer’s plea marks a significant win for law enforcement in the region, but the fight against the opioid crisis is far from over. The influx of fentanyl continues to devastate communities across the country, and federal agencies remain committed to bringing traffickers like Ostheimer to justice.
