Tampa Woman Convicted in Cocaine Conspiracy

A federal jury has found Nicole Diaz, 35, of Tampa, Florida, guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine. The conviction marks a significant blow to the city’s ongoing struggle with narcotics trafficking.

According to the evidence presented at trial, Diaz’s co-conspirators used the U.S. Postal Service to ship multiple kilograms of high purity cocaine from various locations in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to the Middle District of Florida and elsewhere. Diaz knowingly allowed kilogram quantities of cocaine to be delivered to her address in Tampa, where she received those packages for further distribution to various destinations in the United States.

As part of the conspiracy, Diaz’s co-conspirators shipped a substantial quantity of cocaine through the postal service, highlighting the need for increased vigilance in the transportation of packages containing illicit substances.

This case was investigated by the Tampa Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant United States Attorneys John Cannizzaro, David W.A. Chee, and Jim Preston are prosecuting the case.

The indictment against Diaz was handed down on September 4, 2019. Her sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 2022, at which time she will face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

The guilty verdict serves as a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by narcotics trafficking in Tampa and the surrounding areas. As law enforcement agencies continue to work tirelessly to combat this issue, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

With this conviction, the community can take a step towards a safer and more secure future. The Grimy Times will continue to provide updates on this case as more information becomes available.
