NEW ORLEANS, LA – Norman Garcia-Garcia, a 24-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with violating federal law by re-entering the United States after being previously deported.
According to a one-count indictment filed on July 7, 2022, Garcia-Garcia re-entered the country after he was deported on February 23, 2018. If convicted, he could face a maximum term of imprisonment of two years, a maximum fine of $250,000, a maximum term of supervised release of one year, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Duane Evans emphasized that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Garcia-Garcia is currently facing charges of illegal re-entry of a removed alien in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).
The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Carter K. D. Guice, Jr. is overseeing the prosecution of Garcia-Garcia.
The indictment serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violating federal immigration laws.
