A 53-year-old man from Ironton, Ohio, Freddie Knipp, Jr., has been sentenced to 138 months in prison for his involvement in fentanyl and methamphetamine trafficking in Kentucky.
On Monday, U.S. District Judge David Bunning handed down the sentence to Knipp, who was found guilty of two counts of distribution of methamphetamine and one count of sale of a firearm to a convicted felon.
The investigation into Knipp’s activities began in August 2019, when law enforcement officers with the Kentucky State Police (KSP) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) received information regarding his involvement in drug trafficking and illegal firearms activity.
During the investigation, agents purchased approximately 65 grams of methamphetamine from Knipp, and he was also found to have purchased and provided a firearm to a prohibited person.
At sentencing, the court found that Knipp had distributed at least 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine in Boyd and Carter counties over a 10-month period from 2018 to 2020.
Under federal law, Knipp must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence, which translates to 117 months. Upon his release from prison, he will be under the supervision of the U.S. Probation Office for 5 years.
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky Carlton S. Shier, IV, ATF Louisville Field Division Special Agent in Charge Shawn Morrow, and Kentucky State Police Commissioner Phillip J. Burnett jointly announced the sentencing.
The investigation was conducted by the ATF and KSP, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia Rieker prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
