Olean Man’s Sickening Plea
Buffalo, NY – In a disturbing case, Willie G. Reid, a 46-year-old Olean resident, has pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography. The shocking admission has left many in the community reeling.
According to prosecutors, Reid was in possession of over 600 image and video files of child pornography on his computer at his residence in Olean. The disturbing images and videos included depictions of violence and featured children as young as 12 years old.
Reid’s guilty plea comes as part of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Marie P. Grisanti, who stated that Reid used peer-to-peer software to download and share the child pornography with others.
The case is a stark reminder of the ongoing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006, aims to combat this growing issue by marshaling federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who exploit children via the Internet.
Reid’s sentencing is scheduled for August 4, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. before U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Arcara. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least five years to life.
