Omaha’s grim streets witnessed a stunning sentence handed down for a brutal bank heist. Taliaferro D. Thompson, 27, of Omaha was sentenced to 270 months in federal prison after being found guilty of armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during the crime. The harsh sentence came from United States District Court Judge Brian C. Buescher, who called Thompson’s actions ‘unbelievably sickening.’
The heist took place at the First National Bank of Omaha on January 26, 2023, where Thompson and co-defendant Andrew Kincaid entered armed with handguns. They threatened employees and customers, leading to a violent confrontation during which Thompson pistol whipped an employee and forced another pregnant worker to open the vault under duress.
Thompson was identified through surveillance footage, leading to his arrest as he left the scene of a possible hideout. He was found with $76,000 in cash and a handgun, while Kincaid was located at the residence with red dye on his face and head—consistent with money stolen from the bank that contained a hidden red dye pack.
Andrew Kincaid has pleaded guilty to the same charges and is set for sentencing on September 4, 2024. The investigation was carried out by Omaha Police Department’s Robbery Unit and Gang Unit, with support from the FBI’s Great Plains Violent Crimes Task Force.
In addition to his long prison term, Thompson must pay $269,822 in restitution. There is no parole in the federal system, and he will also serve a 5-year supervised release following his release from prison.
