BEAUMONT, TX – Owen Lee Giles, 36, of Orange County, Texas, is facing a federal three-count indictment following a brazen carjacking incident, Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs announced this week. The charges stem from an alleged June 20, 2025, attack where Giles is accused of forcibly taking a vehicle from another individual.
According to the indictment, Giles allegedly threatened serious bodily harm to the victim while brandishing a firearm during the carjacking. Adding to the severity of the accusations, authorities say Giles is a convicted felon, making the possession of a firearm itself a separate federal offense. The Eastern District of Texas grand jury formally returned the indictment this week, detailing the charges of carjacking, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Federal prosecutors are pursuing the maximum penalties allowed under the law. If convicted on all counts, Giles could face up to 15 years behind bars in a federal prison. This case is being actively investigated as part of “Operation Take Back America,” a sweeping national initiative aimed at dismantling transnational criminal organizations and bolstering community safety.
Operation Take Back America isn’t just about border security, it’s a full-scale offensive, combining the resources of the Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program. The goal is to choke off the flow of illegal immigration, cripple cartels, and bring violent criminals to justice – and Giles is now squarely in the crosshairs.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office have been working in tandem on this investigation, gathering evidence and building the case against Giles. Assistant U.S. Attorney Reynaldo P. Morin is leading the prosecution, and will be tasked with proving Giles’ guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
It’s crucial to remember that an indictment is merely an accusation. Owen Lee Giles is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it unfolds, bringing you the unvarnished truth from the Eastern District of Texas.
