28-Year Sentence for Otsego Man in Child Porn Case
A federal judge in St. Paul, Minnesota, has sentenced Nicholas Scott Campbell, 37, of Otsego, to 28 years in prison for producing child pornography involving two minors.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the sentence, which was handed down by Judge Susan Richard Nelson in U.S. District Court. Campbell pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography on April 8, 2019.
According to the investigation, Campbell used a peer-to-peer file-sharing platform to distribute child pornography, leading to a federal search warrant at his residence in 2017. Agents seized a large volume of electronic evidence, which revealed that Campbell had produced sexually explicit images and videos of two minors.
As part of his guilty plea, Campbell admitted to creating the images and videos and engaging in a pattern of prohibited sexual conduct with the minors. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The FBI’s Violent Crimes Against Children program took the lead in the investigation, with significant resources committed to getting defendants like Campbell off the streets and into prison for a long time, said FBI Minneapolis Special Agent in Charge Jill Sanborn.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Katharine T. Buzicky prosecuted the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota is also involved in the case.
Nicholas Scott Campbell was convicted of one count of production of child pornography and sentenced to 336 months in prison, followed by 25 years of supervised release.
