A Gardner man, Andrew Milgrim, 37, has agreed to plead guilty to tampering with oxycodone intended for hospice and memory care patients in a Fitchburg healthcare facility between September 2024 and February 2025. Milgrim diverted oxycodone pills prescribed to patients, consuming some himself and replacing others with allergy and thyroid medications. The tampering occurred in the skilled nursing and dementia care units of the facility.
Milgrim allegedly started by taking 5mg oxycodone pills from various patients, replacing them with Loratadine, an allergy medication that resembles the appearance of the oxycodone pills. He also diverted 10mg oxycodone pills from an elderly patient in the locked unit, replacing those with Levothyroxine, a thyroid medication.
The charge of tampering with a consumer product carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. The plea agreement was announced by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley, along with other law enforcement officials.
The investigation was conducted by the Health and Human Services-Office of Inspector General, with assistance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
