A Saugus man’s scheme to vote in federal elections has been busted. Sunny Manhertz, 40, a Canadian citizen, allegedly submitted a false voter registration form in 2016, claiming to be a US citizen. He’d go on to vote in multiple federal elections, including the 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 elections.
Manhertz, a legal permanent resident since 1987, knew he wasn’t a US citizen but signed under penalties of perjury that he was. In 2019, he even submitted a form to the Department of Homeland Security confirming his lawful permanent resident status.
Law enforcement interviewed Manhertz last month, and he allegedly confirmed signing the false voter registration form. He also admitted to voting in several federal elections.
Manhertz faces charges of unlawful voting by aliens and procurement of false ballots. His fate will be decided in federal court in Boston.
