Pablo Ortega, Methamphetamine Possession with Intent to Distribute, Iowa 2016

Cedar Rapids Man Sentenced to Over 12 Years for Methamphetamine Crime

Pablo Ortega, a 40-year-old man from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for possessing more than 35 grams of ‘ice’ methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

On November 6, 2015, federal probation officers conducted a search of Ortega’s residence and found over 35 grams of ‘ice’ methamphetamine. This discovery led to a guilty plea from Ortega in March 2016 for possession with intent to deliver more than 5 grams of pure methamphetamine.

Ortega had previously served a 188-month prison term for another federal drug trafficking crime and was released from federal prison in December 2014. He was on supervised release at the time of the new crime and was subject to having his residence searched by federal probation officers.

According to court documents, Ortega was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade to 147 months in federal prison. This sentence includes a 60-month term for violating the conditions of his supervised release and an 87-month term for the new drug crime. The two terms will be served consecutively.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Reinert and investigated by the United States Probation Office, Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
