A shocking case of mail theft has come to light in Beaumont, Texas. Pamela Jo Rosas, a 65-year-old woman, has been sentenced to federal prison for stealing mail in the Eastern District of Texas.
According to court documents, Rosas pleaded guilty to theft of mail by a postal employee and was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on March 4, 2024.
The investigation, led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service-OIG, revealed that Rosas had been stealing mail for the past three to four years. Postal inspectors began receiving complaints in April 2020 that a series of parcels containing valuable coins were missing after being placed in the post office for delivery.
Federal agents conducted surveillance and identified Rosas as a subject involved in the theft after viewing her handling packages in a suspicious manner. Rosas was also found in possession of several pieces of stolen mail packages after leaving work.
Rosas admitted to stealing many items from the post office during the previous three to four years. Agents were able to recover hundreds of valuable coins from her apartment, along with other items Rosas had stolen from the mail during the course of her employment.
The case highlights the importance of vigilance in preventing mail theft. Postal inspectors and federal agents work tirelessly to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in this type of crime.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service-OIG and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Russell James.
