A Panama City man is going down for a long haul after a traffic stop turned up a stash of deadly drugs and a loaded gun. Matthew Lee Keith, 41, was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for his role in an armed drug trafficking operation.
According to court documents, Keith was pulled over in August 2024 by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. A K-9 unit alerted to the presence of drugs, and a search of the vehicle turned up fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, alprazolam, and a loaded handgun.
Keith’s history of crime is long and ugly, with multiple felony convictions for tampering with a witness, carrying a concealed weapon, battery, and trafficking methamphetamine, among others.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric K. Mountin prosecuted the case, which is part of the Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America initiative. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin praised the successful prosecution, saying it’s a win for the community and a testament to the Department of Justice’s commitment to keeping streets safe.
