Guatemalan National Sentenced for Re-Entering U.S.

A 22-year-old Guatemalan national has been sentenced for re-entering the United States, violating the nation’s immigration laws.

Pedro Brito-Marcos, a citizen of Guatemala, was found in the United States on or about March 8, 2018, having been previously removed therefrom on or about January 19, 2018, according to a Bill of Information.

The defendant pleaded guilty to a one-count Bill of Information for illegally re-entering the United States in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

In the Eastern District of Louisiana, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Irene González is in charge of the prosecution.

As a result of his guilty plea, Pedro Brito-Marcos was sentenced to time served and a $100.00 special assessment.

The case was brought as part of the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s efforts to combat transnational crime and protect national security.
