PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Another street-level dealer is off the streets, but the pipeline remains. Cayce Williams, 23, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison today for his role in a fentanyl and cocaine distribution conspiracy, Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced.
The sentence, handed down by United States District Judge Marilyn J. Horan, closes the book on a case spanning March to July of 2024. Williams, a resident of the Allentown neighborhood, wasn’t a kingpin, but a cog in the machine – a redistributor, moving small amounts of poison onto the streets of Pittsburgh. He wasn’t manufacturing, just making sure the deadly product reached the end user.
Federal prosecutors Katherine C. Jordan and Kelly M. Locher laid out the evidence, demonstrating Williams’ participation in the conspiracy to distribute both fentanyl and cocaine – both Schedule I controlled substances. The case underscores the continued prevalence of these dangerous drugs in the region and the relentless effort to stem the tide, even at the lower levels of the operation.
This wasn’t a solo operation. The investigation, spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is part of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) program – a multi-agency initiative designed to dismantle large-scale criminal enterprises. While Williams is behind bars, OCDETF aims to target the source, the money, and the entire network fueling the drug trade.
OCDETF isn’t about just arresting street dealers. It’s a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven approach, leveraging the resources of federal, state, and local law enforcement to cripple these organizations. The focus is on identifying and dismantling the highest-level traffickers, money launderers, and the gangs that facilitate the flow of illicit drugs into our communities.
Eighteen months is a start, but it’s a band-aid on a gaping wound. While Cayce Williams pays the price for his actions, the demand for fentanyl and cocaine continues to drive the criminal networks that prey on vulnerable communities.
