Pittsburgh Woman Pleads Guilty in Heroin Trafficking Case

A 33-year-old woman from Pittsburgh has admitted her role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy. Ada Johnson pleaded guilty in federal court to attempting to distribute nearly 400 bricks of heroin in June 2016.

Johnson, who is also known as Ada Johnson, was caught after a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) wiretap investigation intercepted her communications. The investigation revealed that Johnson had traveled to Mechanicsburg, PA, to meet with a heroin supplier.

According to court documents, Johnson was working with a group to distribute the heroin in Pittsburgh. The DEA intercepted her communications with the supplier, and she was subsequently arrested.

Johnson is facing up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, or both. Her sentencing is scheduled for July 26, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.

The investigation was funded by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Program (OCDETF). The program provides critical federal funding and coordination that allows federal and state agencies to work together to identify, investigate, and prosecute major drug trafficking organizations.

United States Attorney Scott W. Brady commended the DEA, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation, Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, and Pennsylvania State Police for their work on the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Tonya Sulia Goodman is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

Johnson’s bond will be continued pending sentencing. The case is a reminder of the ongoing struggle against heroin trafficking in the Pittsburgh area and the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to combat this issue.
