Ponchatoula Man Sentenced to 27 Years for Sexually Exploiting Children
A 53-year-old Ponchatoula man has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for his role in sexually exploiting children, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
Robert Swan, of Ponchatoula, pleaded guilty to receiving images depicting the sexual victimization of children, prosecutors said. U.S. District Judge Stanwood R. Duval, Jr. sentenced Swan to 327 months imprisonment, followed by supervised release for life, and a $100 special assessment.
Swan is also required to register as a sex offender pursuant to the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act. The sentence was handed down on [date] following a lengthy investigation by the State of Louisiana Department of Justice – Cyber Crime Unit.
According to court documents, investigators executed a search warrant on Swan’s residence in 2013, where they found evidence of child pornography and other digital devices containing explicit material. The investigation revealed that Swan and his associate, Thomas Middleton, forced a 3-year-old girl to engage in sexually explicit conduct in 2010, which Swan recorded.
Agents also found that Swan had downloaded, saved, and catalogued over 500,000 images and videos depicting children as young as four-weeks old being forced to engage in sexually explicit conduct. Swan’s prior conviction in 1987 for lewd and lascivious assault of a minor in Escambia County, Florida, led to an enhanced sentence.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the State of Louisiana Department of Justice – Cyber Crime Unit in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Ginsberg was in charge of the prosecution.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
