Porcupine Man Charged in Drug Trafficking Firearm Offense

Isiah K. Coleman, a 24-year-old man from Porcupine, South Dakota, was recently charged with a series of serious firearm offenses in connection with a drug trafficking crime in Rapid City.

According to the indictment, Coleman was found to be in possession of a Marlin .22 rifle on August 21, 2015, while involved in the drug trafficking crime. He is now facing charges of Firearm Offense, Possession of Unregistered Firearm, and Possession of Firearm by a Prohibited Person.

Coleman was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 15, 2015, and pleaded not guilty to the charges on January 13, 2016. The maximum penalty for conviction is up to life in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 5 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The charges are merely accusations, and Coleman is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich is prosecuting the case.

Coleman was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has been set for March 22, 2016.
