Quad Cities Man Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison for Heroin Distribution Resulting in Death
A 42-year-old Quad Cities man has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for distributing heroin that resulted in the death of a 34-year-old man from East Moline, Illinois.
According to court documents, Ajayi Marcel McIntyre distributed heroin to Kyle Medinger on April 17, 2018, which ultimately led to Medinger’s death due to a heroin overdose.
McIntyre, who has been in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service since his arrest in June 2018, pleaded guilty to two counts of distribution of heroin in Rock Island County on September 16, 2020.
The investigation into the case was led by the Moline Police, the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group, and the Milan Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer L. Mathew prosecuted the case in cooperation with the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The case against McIntyre is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of heroin distribution. Heroin use has led to a string of overdoses and deaths throughout the Quad Cities area in recent years.
Two individuals related to the incident, David Flores and Ashley Gengler, are also facing charges in Rock Island County court.
McIntyre’s sentence is a significant blow to those involved in the heroin trade, and serves as a warning to others who would engage in similar activity. The Quad Cities community can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that justice has been served in this case.
