Rapid City Man Accused of Assaulting Intimate Partner
A Rapid City, South Dakota, man is facing federal charges after allegedly assaulting his intimate partner with a knife.
According to reports, Isaac White Crane, 29, was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 23, 2014, for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault by Strangulation and Suffocation, and Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury to an Intimate Partner.
The alleged assault took place on January 8, 2014, near Kyle, South Dakota. White Crane allegedly used a knife to cause substantial bodily injury to his intimate and dating partner, and also strangled and suffocated her.
White Crane appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on September 26, 2014, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich is prosecuting the case.
White Crane was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial. A trial date has not been set. The charges are mere accusations, and White Crane is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
