Rick Higgins Sentenced to Prison for Oxycodone Distribution
Tampa, FL – In a major blow to the illicit opioid trade, 33-year-old Rick Higgins of Oldsmar, Florida, has been sentenced to two years and nine months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute Oxycodone.
U.S. District Judge Mary S. Scriven handed down the sentence, which also includes a three-year term of supervision following Higgins’ incarceration. The court also entered a money judgment in the amount of $239,000, the proceeds of his Oxycodone distribution.
Higgins pleaded guilty to the charges on October 16, 2013.
According to court documents, Higgins used the U.S. mail to send packages of Oxycodone to a co-conspirator in the Boston, Massachusetts area over a period of two to three years. Higgins received payments of over $239,000 from cash bank deposits made in Massachusetts, into accounts that he controlled.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelley C. Howard-Allen.
