CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Duane Jabbar Martin, 32, of Rivesville, was handed a 18-month prison term for illegal firearm possession, according to Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen.
Martin, who has a previous felony conviction in Marion County, admitted to possessing a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in April 2016, in direct violation of his rights as a convicted felon.
In January 2017, Martin pled guilty to one count of ‘Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.’ Assistant U.S. Attorney Traci M. Cook represented the government in the case.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation. The case was presided over by U.S. District Judge Irene M. Keeley.
Martin’s illegal firearm possession poses a serious threat to public safety, and this sentence reflects the severity of his crime. Assistant Attorney General Jividen emphasized the importance of enforcing gun laws to protect communities from such dangers.
Community leaders and residents alike are relieved by Martin’s conviction, expressing hope that it sends a strong message about the consequences of illegal firearm possession.
