In a shocking turn of events, Roberto Lamadrid Campuzano, a 38-year-old Mexican national, was convicted of illegal reentry to the United States following an aggravated felony conviction in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska.

U.S. Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced the conviction on August 8, 2025, stating that Lamadrid Campuzano had previously been identified as a member of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13.

Lamadrid Campuzano’s troubles began when he was encountered by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) after a traffic stop in Bellevue, Nebraska, conducted by the Bellevue Police Department on April 4, 2025.

It was then that authorities discovered that Lamadrid Campuzano had been previously ordered removed from the United States on October 6, 2006, and was physically removed from the country on May 30, 2014, but had since re-entered the country without permission.

Lamadrid Campuzano’s past caught up with him when he was arrested on April 10, 2025, at a construction site in Elkhorn, Nebraska, where he was working. He was taken into custody and subsequently confirmed to be the same individual with a history of felony convictions.

Lamadrid Campuzano’s lengthy rap sheet includes convictions for Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Criminal Gang Participation, and Reckless Use of a Firearm with Serious Injury, all of which took place in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, on August 1, 2006.

Chief Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. sentenced Lamadrid Campuzano to 24 months’ imprisonment, with no parole available in the federal system. Upon his release, he will begin a 3-year term of supervised release, a move designed to keep a watchful eye on the MS-13 gang member.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, highlighting the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in taking down individuals like Lamadrid Campuzano.
