Ronnel Omar Sanchez-Villafanca, Illegally Reentry, Louisiana 2023

Ronnel Omar Sanchez-Villafanca, a 37-year-old Honduran national, has been convicted of illegally reentering the United States, according to a recent plea deal.

On August 9, 2013, Sanchez-Villafanca was officially deported from the United States. However, on or about March 8, 2017, he was found in the country again, sparking a federal investigation.

Sanchez-Villafanca’s guilty plea was accepted by U.S. District Judge Jay C. Zainey, who then sentenced him to time served. The court also ordered Sanchez-Villafanca to serve one year of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment.

As a result of the conviction, Sanchez-Villafanca will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the United States Department of Homeland Security, Immigration Enforcement, in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Irene González was in charge of the prosecution.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts to crack down on immigration-related crimes in Louisiana. Sanchez-Villafanca’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing serve as a reminder of the consequences of violating U.S. immigration laws.
