A Rosebud, South Dakota man is facing the music after a string of brutal assaults on his domestic partner. Marlon Oliver Jr., 41, pleaded guilty to two counts of Domestic Assault by an Habitual Offender on January 12, 2026.
The violent outbursts occurred on October 11, 2024, and December 1, 2024, on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation in Todd County. In both incidents, Oliver’s partner was the victim, with the second incident escalating to a knife threat.
Oliver’s prior convictions for domestic assault in Rosebud Sioux Tribal Court sealed his fate, as the Major Crimes Act mandates federal prosecution of violent crimes in Indian country.
U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte handed down a two-year, ten-month sentence, followed by three years of supervised release, and a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Oliver was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service. Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson prosecuted the case.
