Armed Robbery Rocks Eagle Butte; Defendant Sentenced to Prison Time

A chilling incident of armed robbery that shook the community of Eagle Butte, South Dakota, has come to a close with the sentencing of one of its perpetrators. On July 17, 2017, U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange handed down a 12-month and one-day prison sentence to Kobe Houston, a 19-year-old Eagle Butte man, for his role in the July 2, 2016, armed robbery of the Eagle Stop convenience store.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Houston was part of a group that included Ryker Talbot, Dominic Houston, and a juvenile who hatched a plan to rob the store. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Division of Criminal Investigation investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Miller leading the prosecution.

Houston’s sentence includes two years of supervised release, restitution in the amount of $1,743 to be paid jointly with three other defendants, and a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund in the amount of $100.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Seiler expressed satisfaction with the outcome, saying, ‘This sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions.’

The incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the community in preventing and investigating crimes of this nature.

Kobe Houston’s sentence is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement and prosecutors in bringing justice to the people of Eagle Butte and South Dakota.
