Rosie Castaneda, a 37-year-old resident of Bellingham, was sentenced to nine years in federal prison for her role in a Whatcom County drug distribution ring. Castaneda’s sentencing, along with that of Hamilton, who pleaded guilty in April 2013, is a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice by agencies like the DEA, Washington State Patrol, ATF, and numerous local law enforcement bodies.
According to court records, Castaneda had been involved in drug distribution for two decades. Her criminal history was extensive, and she was already on supervision with the Department of Corrections when she was arrested. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jill Otake and Roger Rogoff led the prosecution, ensuring that justice was served for the destruction caused to countless addicts and their families.
With Hamilton scheduled for sentencing on July 9, 2013, this case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by organized drug rings in local communities.
