Ryan Davidson, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Massachusetts 2023

WORCESTER, MA – A 38-year-old Worcester man is facing serious federal charges after authorities say he was found illegally packing heat. Ryan Davidson was indicted by a grand jury this week for possession of a firearm and ammunition, a crime that carries a hefty penalty for someone with his record.

According to court documents, Davidson was found with a Taurus 9-millimeter pistol and 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition on or about May 9th in Worcester. The problem? Davidson is already a convicted felon, making it illegal for him to own or possess any firearms or ammunition. This isn’t a first offense; his past convictions have stripped him of the right to bear arms.

The feds are coming down hard. Davidson is now facing one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. If convicted, he could be looking at up to 15 years behind bars, plus up to three years of supervised release after serving his time. A fine of up to $250,000 could also be levied against him. Sentencing, however, will be at the discretion of the federal district court judge, taking into account federal guidelines.

The case is being spearheaded by Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy, with support from James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Boston Field Division, and Worcester Police Chief Steven Sargent. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kaitlin J. Brown is handling the prosecution from the Worcester Branch Office.

This bust is part of “Project Safe Neighborhoods,” a federal initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by coordinating efforts between law enforcement at all levels and the communities they serve. The program focuses on building trust, supporting community organizations, and targeting enforcement strategically. The Department of Justice launched a renewed focus on PSN in 2021, doubling down on these core principles.

It’s important to remember that these are just allegations at this point. Davidson is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
