Gilbert Ramirez, a 27-year-old from Sacramento, has been handed a 16-year and three-month sentence for his role in a fentanyl and methamphetamine distribution conspiracy. The sentence was imposed by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Troy L. Nunley on Thursday.
According to court documents, Ramirez, along with co-defendant Michael Valentino Lovato, 36, sold large quantities of the deadly substances in Sacramento County from April through July 2022. Lovato was sentenced to 19 years and 10 months in prison on October 24, 2024.
This case is a testament to the relentless efforts of law enforcement, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Sacramento Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristin F. Scott led the prosecution.
The Ramirez conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust in communities and supporting local organizations. The initiative, launched by the U.S. Department of Justice on May 26, 2021, emphasizes strategic enforcement priorities and community engagement.
Additionally, this case is a product of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) Strike Force Initiative. The Sacramento Strike Force works across multiple agencies to dismantle significant drug trafficking organizations and transnational criminal groups, ensuring a safer environment for Californians.
