SACRAMENTO, Calif. — In a groundbreaking ruling, Jaquorey Rashawn Carter, 24, was today sentenced to 14 years in federal prison by Senior U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb for sex trafficking of a child, according to United States Attorney McGregor W. Scott.
Carter, a Sacramento resident, operated a brutal pimping operation from 2013 until October 2018. Evidence at his February 2020 trial revealed that he used a minor female and adult women as prostitutes, forcing them into motel rooms and onto the streets of Sacramento, Stockton, Oakland, Sunnyvale, and Santa Ana.
The jury heard that Carter began his sinister enterprise in 2013 by recruiting a then-14-year-old girl. He exploited her for years, taking her to different cities where he rented motels for her to perform acts of prostitution. Carter continued his reign of terror until 2018 when the exploitation finally came to an end.
During the trial, it was revealed that Carter had been in contact with law enforcement while transporting women for his illegal activities. In September 2018, a federal judge authorized the wiretap of Carter’s cell phone, leading to intercepted calls demonstrating his ongoing involvement in prostitution rings across California.
This case is a testament to the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the California Department of Justice’s Special Operations Unit, and the Sacramento Police Department. The California Highway Patrol, Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, and the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office also played critical roles in bringing Carter to justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian A. Fogerty and Jason Hitt were instrumental in prosecuting this case. Jaquorey Rashawn Carter’s sentence reflects the severe consequences faced by those who prey on the most vulnerable members of our society.
