Mountain View Predator Gets 15 Years for Enticing a Minor
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Jason Matthew Perdue, 47, of Mountain View, Missouri, will spend the next 15 years in federal prison after being sentenced for attempting to entice a minor for illicit sexual activity. U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool handed down the sentence on Thursday, Sept. 3, ensuring Perdue will face a lifetime of consequences, including mandatory registration as a sex offender upon release.
The case began to unravel on July 13, 2018, when CyberTips alerted law enforcement to Perdue’s disturbing online activity. Investigators discovered Perdue had uploaded images of child pornography to his Google account, triggering a full-scale investigation. A subsequent search warrant executed on Sept. 6, 2018, at Perdue’s residence uncovered a sickening trove of illegal material.
Inside a safe, officers found a SanDisk flash drive packed with a “large volume” of videos and images depicting the sexual abuse of children. Multiple devices were seized, including a laptop, various hard drives, a camera, a cell phone, and additional flash drives. Forensic analysis of these devices revealed a pattern of depraved communication: numerous Skype chat logs showing Perdue engaged in sexually explicit conversations with individuals he believed to be minors.
Perdue pleaded guilty to the charge on March 2, 2020. The evidence painted a clear picture of a calculated predator seeking to exploit vulnerable children. The 15-year sentence reflects the severity of his crimes and the potential harm he posed. Beyond prison, Perdue will be required to adhere to both federal and state sex offender registration requirements for the rest of his life.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ami Harshad Miller skillfully prosecuted the case, while the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force and Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) led the investigation. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice.
Project Safe Childhood marshals resources from federal, state, and local agencies to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those who prey on children.
