Sacramento Shooter Targets KXTV, FBI Steps In

SACRAMENTO, CA – A Sacramento man is facing federal charges after allegedly opening fire on the KXTV/ABC 10 television station last Friday. Anibal Hernandez Santana, 63, is accused of a brazen attack that, thankfully, didn’t result in any injuries, but sent shockwaves through the local media landscape. The FBI took over the case after Santana was briefly released on bail following an initial arrest by Sacramento Police.

According to court documents, Santana fired one shot in the direction of the station from a location near 2555 3rd Street, then drove up and unleashed three more shots directly into the lobby of the Broadway building. A KXTV/ABC 10 employee was present inside during the shooting, narrowly avoiding harm. The initial shot, fired from within a designated school zone, adds a serious layer to the charges. U.S. Attorney Eric Grant announced the filing of a three-count amended criminal complaint on Monday morning.

The charges against Santana are significant: possessing a firearm within a school zone, discharging a firearm within a school zone, and interfering with a radio communication station. If convicted, Santana faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the firearm offenses, and up to one year in prison and a $10,000 fine for interfering with the broadcast station. However, sentencing will be at the judge’s discretion, taking into account federal guidelines.

What’s even more disturbing is what investigators found during searches of Santana’s person, home, and vehicle. A weekly planner in his kitchen contained a chilling handwritten note under “Friday”: “Do the Next Scary Thing.” His car yielded another handwritten message, a rambling screed referencing “Epstein” and naming conservative personalities like Dan Bongino and Pam Bondi, with a threat signed “C.K. from above.” The content suggests a potentially disturbed individual with a warped sense of grievance.

Santana was initially arrested by the Sacramento Police Department on Friday evening, but released on bail the following day. The FBI swiftly moved in, taking Santana into custody over the weekend. The quick federal intervention suggests the FBI believes this was more than just a random act of violence. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are meticulously piecing together Santana’s motives and potential connections.

Santana is scheduled to make his initial appearance on the amended criminal complaint on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliot Wong is leading the prosecution. It’s critical to remember that these are allegations at this point, and Santana is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation.
