GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Keino Hughes, 42, of Saginaw, Michigan, was handed a stiff 151-month sentence for his role in the distribution of cocaine. U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon, Jr., and James Deir of the ATF Detroit Field Office revealed the severe punishment on August 14, 2025.
Hughes’ sentence was imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Thomas L. Ludington after he pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The judge’s decision followed a high-stakes operation by the Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team (BAYANET), which included ATF Special Agents, when they executed a search warrant at Hughes’s residence in Saginaw.
Inside the residence, BAYANET agents discovered significant quantities of cocaine and cocaine base, two firearms, two digital scales, and an astonishing $17,000 in cash. The evidence pointed to Hughes as a key figure in the local drug trade, underscoring the severity of his charges.
The investigation leading to Hughes’ arrest was a joint effort by the ATF and the Michigan State Police Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement Team. Assistant United States Attorney William Orr handled the prosecution of the case, ensuring that justice was served for the community affected by drug trafficking.
This sentence sends a strong message about the commitment of federal law enforcement to crack down on drug dealers who threaten communities across Michigan. With Hughes now behind bars, local authorities are hopeful that this will disrupt his criminal operations and improve public safety in Saginaw.
As the justice system holds drug traffickers accountable for their actions, it underscores the ongoing battle against substance abuse and its devastating effects on individuals and society at large.
