Santiago Quintana Jr., Abusive Sexual Contact, New Mexico 2023

A shocking case of child abuse has come to light in New Mexico, where a 70-year-old man has pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual contact with a minor.

Santiago Quintana Jr., a member of the Santo Domingo Pueblo, admitted to the crime in a plea agreement, which revealed that he had been abusing a sibling for about six years, starting when the victim was just 6 years old.

The abuse continued until the victim was over the age of 12 but had not yet reached the age of 16, according to court documents.

The case came to light in January 2023 when the Bureau of Indian Affairs received an allegation of sexual abuse of children from the Santo Domingo School. A forensic interviewer from the FBI interviewed the victim, who stated that she and her sibling had been sexually abused by Quintana.

The FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case, with assistance from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Assistant United States Attorney Robert James Booth II is prosecuting the case.

At sentencing, Quintana faces up to 10 years in prison and must register as a sex offender upon his release.

The community is reeling from the news, with many calling for justice for the victims. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and reporting of child abuse.

Santiago Quintana Jr. will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.
