New Orleans, Louisiana – Sean Cobb, a 53-year-old local, has pleaded guilty before Judge Wendy B. Vitter to violating the Federal Gun Control Act, according to U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans.
Cobb’s crime came to light when the New Orleans Police Department responded to his residence after being flagged down by a man who alleged Cobb had shot him. After refusing to exit for several hours, Cobb surrendered and police found a gun and spent casing. Cobb admitted the weapon was possessed in furtherance of maintaining drug-involved premises.
Judge Vitter has scheduled sentencing for August 27, 2024. Cobb faces a mandatory minimum term of five years and a maximum of life imprisonment, a fine up to $250,000, up to five years of supervised release, and a special assessment fee of $100.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The Department launched a strategy in May 2021 to strengthen PSN based on fostering community trust, supporting organizations preventing violence, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the New Orleans Police Department, with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorney David Haller, Senior Litigation Counsel.
