Eight individuals have been accused of running a prescription fraud ring in St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana.
The individuals, who were arrested earlier this year, were indicted by a federal grand jury on Friday, September 21, 2018.
According to the indictment, Shallon D. Dunmiles, a 34-year-old former employee at a medical clinic in Laplace, and Lashonda Melancon, 37, conspired to possess and possess with the intent to distribute illicitly obtained prescription medications, including dextroamphetamine/adderall, a Schedule II drug controlled substance, and promethazine with codeine, a Schedule V drug controlled substance.
The indictment also charges Dunmiles, Melancon, Wilfred Perrillox, 43, Danyelle Tucx, 32, Andrea Stalks, 42, Ebony Stewart, 32, Cortaz Williams, 23, and Danielle Anderson, 36, with conspiracy to acquire or obtain possession of the prescription medication by misrepresentation, fraud, forgery, deception, or subterfuge.
U.S. Attorney Peter G. Strasser emphasized that the indictment is merely an allegation and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Strasser also praised the work of the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Tactical Diversion Squad (TDS) in investigating this matter.
