A neighbor’s dog got more than a bark at Edwin Soto’s Tulsa, Oklahoma home in August 2025. Soto, a 28-year-old Mexican national and prior felon, shot at the canine after it allegedly defecated in his yard.

Soto, a convicted felon, was previously deported from the United States and had a history of firearms-related charges. In 2020, he pleaded guilty to discharging a weapon into a dwelling in state court.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, Soto initially denied owning firearms, but a search warrant turned up four guns in his home.

Now, Soto will spend 52 months behind bars for being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as unlawful reentry of a removed alien. He’ll face removal proceedings after serving his time.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Homeland Security Investigations investigated the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan E. Michel prosecuting.
