Shreveport Man Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession
A Shreveport man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, according to a federal court ruling. John Marston, 38, of Shreveport, was sentenced to 120 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
Marston’s sentence stems from an incident in January 2020, when law enforcement officers from the Shreveport Street Level Interdiction Unit obtained a search warrant for a residence on Clay Street, where Marston was residing and suspected narcotics distribution activity was taking place.
Officers found Marston inside the residence, along with narcotics, firearms, and ammunition. Marston has several prior felony convictions, including attempted possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in 2014, possession with intent to distribute cocaine in 2014, and simple burglary in 2002.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian C. Flanagan prosecuted the case, and the ATF and Shreveport Police Department conducted the investigation.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. Project Safe Neighborhoods is part of the federal government’s renewed focus on targeting violent criminals and reducing violent crime.
