Robert Eugene Stefani, Child Pornography Production, South Dakota 2021

A Sioux Falls man has been charged with producing child pornography, according to court documents. Robert Eugene Stefani, 45, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 7, 2021, for his alleged role in the crime.

Stefani appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on July 12, 2021, and pled not guilty to the indictment. If convicted, Stefani faces a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in federal prison and/or a fine of $250,000, as well as life of supervised release and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The indictment alleges that Stefani knowingly employed, used, persuaded, induced, enticed, and coerced a juvenile female to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing visual depictions of such conduct on June 22, 2019. The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuting the case.

Stefani was released on bond pending trial, but a trial date has not been set. The charge is merely an accusation, and Stefani is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The alleged incident occurred on June 22, 2019, and Stefani’s indictment is the result of a months-long investigation by the FBI and DCI. Stefani’s release on bond pending trial has raised concerns among local residents, who are calling for justice in the case.
