An Orlando man’s scheme to swindle COVID-19 pandemic unemployment benefits has netted him six years and three months in prison.
Dexter Ray King, 36, filed dozens of fake claims for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance across multiple states, using stolen identities and fake addresses.
Once approved, King redirected the debit cards to his Orlando apartment, where he withdrew the funds. He also used his own name with fake Social Security numbers to snag direct deposits.
King raked in over $549,000, splurging on a $77,000 SUV, a Vegas trip, and luxury fashion.
King was convicted in January and ordered to forfeit the ill-gotten gains.
