New Orleans, LA – In a stunning turn of events, Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the unsealing of a seven-count indictment against three Louisiana men for their alleged involvement in a massive fentanyl distribution ring.
DARRYL SUMLER, 61, DARRYL GOODMAN, 47, and JASON SLAUGHTER, 33, were charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, violating federal laws that carry a minimum sentence of five years and up to forty years imprisonment.
According to the indictment, the trio conspired to traffic the deadly substance in the Eastern District of Louisiana since an unknown time until at least June 13, 2025. The charges against SUMLER include distribution of fentanyl, carrying potential sentences ranging from five years to life, fines reaching $5 million, and mandatory supervised release.
SLAUGHTER faces similar penalties for possession with intent to distribute, while GOODMAN is accused of distributing a quantity of fentanyl, which could land him up to 20 years in prison, fines up to $1 million, and at least three years of supervised release.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a broad Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and protecting communities. The investigation involved the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations, local law enforcement, and state police.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson reminded readers that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
