Fayetteville, Arkansas – The grim halls of justice were once again echoing with the sound of fate for Springdale’s Michael Reed, who was sentenced today to 100 months in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release, and a $2,400.00 fine. This sentence came after Reed, age 38, was convicted on one count of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute More Than 50 Grams.
United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas, Duane (DAK) Kees, declared the stiff penalties at a sentencing hearing held by the Honorable Timothy L. Brooks in Fayetteville’s United States District Court.
Reed’s fall from grace began when the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force uncovered his trail of destruction through methamphetamine trafficking in Northwest Arkansas. In September 2018, the feds set up a sting operation that resulted in Reed handing over a kilo to an undercover agent. The controlled purchase led authorities to obtain a search warrant for Reed’s residence and vehicles.
During the execution of the search warrant, law enforcement found a digital scale, drug paraphernalia, and a shotgun with a short barrel at Reed’s property. Inside his vehicle, they discovered a vacuum-sealed bag containing methamphetamine, scales, and cash from the controlled purchase. DEA crime lab tests confirmed that the substance contained over 50 grams of pure methamphetamine.
The grand jury indicted Reed in September 2018, and he entered a guilty plea in January 2019. The investigation was a team effort by the Fourth Judicial District Drug Task Force, with Assistant United States Attorney Sydney Butler leading the prosecution.
