MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A Stilwell resident has been locked away for three years after being caught with a cache of illegal ammunition. Zachary Thomas Carson, also known as Zach Thomas Carson, aged 36, was sentenced to 36 months in prison following his conviction for Felon in Possession of Ammunition.
The sentence stems from an intense investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), District 27 Drug Task Force, Stilwell Police Department, and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. Carson was apprehended on April 21, 2025, during a traffic stop where authorities found him in possession of 255 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, one round of .22 caliber hornet ammunition, one spent casing, and two rifle magazines with 40 rounds each.
Carson had prior convictions that merited prison time. His illegal firearm possession came to light when he pleaded guilty to the charges on June 10, 2025. The case is a part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.
The hearing was presided over by Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Carson will serve his sentence without parole as directed by the court. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacob R. Parker represented the United States during the trial.
Carson remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until transportation to a Bureau of Prisons facility for his term begins. This case underscores the Department of Justice’s commitment to eradicating illegal firearms and maintaining public safety.
